Check Out Our Vernal Pool Life Cycles

To reach the vernal pool along the Northwest Branch, walk onto the NWB Trail from the Lockridge Drive trailhead. Continue straight, leaving the trail as you come to the river. Turn right. You should soon spot the depression that fills in every spring to create the perfect nursery for many Maryland frog species. ■

Local pond toads that mate and lay strings of eggsin the vernal pool.

Hundreds of tadpoles hatched.

And the result is more toads! Looking forward to natural mosquito control.
