North Four Corners News ♦ February 2023
Hola Neighbors! Ema here. Welcome to 2023 and the fourth (yes, fourth!) year of the pandemic. However, if the experience in Northwood Park View is representative of the rest of the neighborhood, many of you have probably experienced more illness over the past four months than over the past four years. At our house we are running low on leave and patience after battling RSV, Covid, and a bunch of nasty colds and viruses this fall and winter. Our neighbors have been amazing to each other during this challenging time, one of the many reasons it is so great to live in this neighborhood. A reminder that if you get sick and need assistance, please do reach out to me or any of the Board members and we will do our best to connect you with neighbors who can help.
Thank you to those of you who attended our December neighborhood association meeting. As you all undoubtedly know by now, pulling off a hybrid meeting is hard; we will work to improve the experience for all. While we could go back to in-person only meetings, we are aware that there are many neighbors who are not able to come in-person due to illness, children’s bedtimes, and other responsibilities, so we would like to do what we can to provide both in-person and online options for attendance.
Thank you to everyone who has paid their NFCCA dues of $15 per household (see page 7)! Your dues support this newsletter and other neighborhood activities, such as the chili party we are planning for March; see the story on page one. If you haven’t had a chance to pay your dues yet, please take two minutes to head over to www.nfcca.org and do so.
Our neighborhood continues in a period of transition, with long-time residents moving away and young families moving in. This is part of the natural cycle of neighborhoods, but it is never easy to say good-bye to old friends. It is a testament to the strength of our community that we have so many long-time residents who raised their kids here and are now enjoying their retirement. A big welcome to our new neighbors. You can request a welcome kit from the NFCCA on our home page.
Finally, we are looking for ways to build community in our neighborhood. Last year we had three neighborhood bike rides and we intend to keep those up in 2023. But not everyone likes to ride bikes, so if you have ideas (have you heard of Porchfest?) for other neighborhood activities we could put together, and especially if you would like to coordinate such an activity, please shoot me an email. We are all volunteers here, and we welcome participation from all neighbors. In the meantime, get your chili recipes ready for March, and stay tuned for more details on the date and time of what will definitely be a fun event! Spring is coming, guys. ■
