Ruan Thai Restaurant in Wheaton

Ruan Thai Restaurant is a family-owned and -operated business that opened in 1998 in Wheaton.  It is located at 11407 Amherst Avenue and serves authentic Thai cuisine.  You can dine-in or order take out.

Ruan Thai was given national attention when it was mentioned in Bon Appétit magazine on a list of recommended restaurants.

Amiel Stanek wrote in his article on 5 January 2022, “Fried dishes are especially standout at this 24-year-old Wheaton, Maryland, institution.  Start with the Yum Watercress — tangles of battered greens tossed with crispy bits of seafood and handfuls of herbs.  You’d be wise to center a meal around the whole fried flounder bathed in Thai-basil-perfumed lard prik sauce, with plenty of sticky rice on the side for scooping.”
