Kindergarten and First Grade teacher Kristen Kane, who has taught at Forest Knolls Elementary School for more than 11 years, was named this year’s Montgomery County Public Schools Teacher of the Year.  In addition, Mildred Charley-Greene, principal of Northwood High School since 2013, has been named the High School Principal of the Year by the Maryland Association of Secondary School Principals (MASSP).

As MCPS Teacher of the Year, Kane will receive a one-year lease of a new car by Fitzgerald Automall, a laptop computer, and $2,000 in cash from the Marian Greenblatt Fund.  Kane said she was “shocked, amazed, … humbled,” and “so happy.”

Charley-Green was worked as a Montgomery County elementary and middle school teacher, literacy coach, assistant principal, and middle and high school principal.  Her nomination packet for the award included data about Northwood; her involvement in professional organizations and professional development; test scores; leadership; personalization of programs for students; curriculum, instruction and assessment; and letters of recommendation from students, colleagues, and a supervisor.   ■
