On August 1, NFCCA celebrated National Night Out with a pool party at Forest Knolls Pool. Rain threatened to force a cancellation of the event, but skies cleared in time for a lovely evening.
A respectable crowd of residents visited and enjoyed a delicious variety of potluck dishes to the sound of local band Stealing Liberty. (Neighborhood resident Leah Delano is a band member!) Officials from Montgomery County Police Department Zones 3 and 4 dropped by and state legislators Maricé Morales, Roger Manno, and Ben Kramer (plus Bonnie Cullison’s legislative director, Brígida Krzysztofik) joined the festivities as well, along with Tom Hucker from the Montgomery County Council. National Night Out is held on the first Tuesday in August and is “an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community.” Many thanks to the numerous volunteers who helped with setup, cleanup, and snowcone-making; to Leah Delano and her bandmates for the delightful entertainment; and to all of the neighbors who showed up and brought food and helped to show that our neighborhood has never lost its true sense of community. It’s not too early to mark your calendars for the next National Night Out on Tuesday, August 7, 2018! ■
