New Homes to be Built at Brunett Avenue, University Boulevard After All

By Jacquie Bokow

The developer seems to have thrown in the towel.  After five years and seven denials for a special exception zoning request to build a day care center on University Boulevard at Brunett Avenue, developer Gilmoure Brunett, LLC — presumably named after the two cross streets bounding the property — has gone back to their original plan to build single-family homes on the property.

An artist’s drawing shows how the $499,900 homes will look.

The real estate boom had tanked just after the developer had acquired all the required permits and zoning for construction of the five luxury homes, so they decided that building a very large, 150-child day care facility would be a better investment.  It’s been estimated that the developer spent nearly $2 million in fees to lawyers and consultants to secure a special exception request to allow the day care facility, a request that was finally denied (for the seventh time) in November [2012].

According to the realtor’s listing, each of the five two-story, 2,780-sq.-ft. colonials will have a fireplace, garage, full finished basement, four bedrooms, three full bathrooms, and one half bathroom.  The listing dated 23 January 2013 stated the homes would be built this year.  The broker is RE/MAX All Pro.  The list price is $499,900.   ■
