Stories from the NFCCA Newsletter, the “Northwood News” |
Well, we’ve just completed a whirlwind of NFCCA activities. I always enjoy the opportunity to meet new neighbors and to reacquaint myself with old friends.
We started off with a strong attempt to tame the non-native invasive plant species in Rachel Carson Meadow. Next we tackled the trash in and around the Lockridge Creek. Last, but not least, we gathered to celebrate our community at the Rachel Carson Meadow Festival (see photos below and additional pictures here). Strong community doesn’t just happen, but, with a little time and effort, we can all be better friends and neighbors. I had the opportunity meet and talk with Pat (mother/MIL to my new neighbors Brian and Jan). She told me how much she enjoyed seeing all the different generations mixing at the Meadow Festival. She should know; her family had three generations there. I feel I can safety say, “A good time was had by all.” Special thanks go out to the Board members and volunteers who helped organize all the events; Wologuede-Natives of the Benin Dance Company (top photo); and the Washington Revels (lower photo).I hope to see you at the next meeting in June. ■
