Northwood/Four Corners/Forest Knolls residents and guests will again come together to celebrate a cherished neighborhood amenity, the Rachel Carson Meadow in North Four Corners Park. Community members have named the park’s six-acre meadow area after the famous local scientist and author, Rachel Carson. This was in honor of her last book called The Sense of Wonder, which encouraged adults to instill in children an appreciation for the beauty and magic to be found in natural areas.
The Washington Revels will create an interactive Spring Festival program as part of this event again this year. We gather, rehearse, and perform a “mini Revels” all in one day — no auditions or experience necessary! Come by yourself, with a friend, or bring the whole family — all ages welcome. To join the performers, register on the Revels website (www.revelsdc.org) by 11 May to select your performance or production activity. Everyone 13 and older can choose to sing in the chorus, dance English country style, act in the Mummer’s play, play in the band, craft props and decorations, help with setup/sign in/organization, serve as photographers/videographers, or lend a hand with schlepping/assembling large props, etc. Children ages 6–12 may either learn and perform their own set, or work on props and decorations.
Later in the afternoon, the Revels performers and community members will come together to present the Spring Festival celebration, including a May Pole dance. ■
