Police Give Crime Overview of Our Neighborhood

By Jacquie Bokow

Montgomery County Police Lt. Paul Liquorie gave an overview of the types of crime that occur in our neighborhood when he spoke to attendees at the October NFCCA meeting.

Lt. Liquorie pulled the statistics for our neighborhood from January through September and reported the following number of reported crimes:

Lt. Paul Liquorie

He told us that the aggravated assault was part of a domestic dispute and the rape was of an 18-year-old woman at a party where alcohol and marijuana were present.  The three robberies were:

  1. a homeless man robbed of his squeegie,
  2. one at the Getty gas station, and
  3. one by a Blair student on another.

The Lieutenant emphasized that the police need community input.  The more people who call about an incident, the more likely we’ll get a response.  For example, he said, one person reporting hearing a gunshot might be dismissed as a car backfiring or any other number of sounds, but numerous calls will expedite an officer responding.

Since we suffer from thefts from cars most, don’t leave electronics in your vehicle.  A plug or even suction cup marks on the windshield tell a thief you possess such items.  And lock your car!  A surprising number of folks forget.   ■
