Where’s Our Northwood Sign?

By Mark Weingart

Residents may have noticed the disappearance of the “Northwood-Four Corners” sign at the intersection of Timberwood Avenue and Sutherland Road.

Through the efforts of several members of the community, this sign was installed in the spring of 2001.  The County’s Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) paid for one-half of the cost and the NFCCA received an additional grant to plant shrubs and trees in the area.  The NFCCA also received a permit for the sign from the Montgomery County Department of Permitting Services (DPS).

Along with the streetscape that DHCA installed in 2000, the sign served as a gateway to the neighborhood and delineated it from the businesses that operate in Four Corners.

Unfortunately, in February 2008, a resident sawed through the steel legs that support the sign.  Presently, neighborhood residents are working to repair and reinstall it.   ■
