Homeowners Interested in Group Rate for Home Insulation Sought

By Jacquie Bokow

I live in one of the cooperative houses celebrated for their 50th anniversary in these pages a few years back.  But like many of the homes in our neighborhood — built in the 1950s, when no thought was given to energy efficiency — my home has no insulation in the walls at all.

I have been investigating possible means of rectifying this situation without tearing out the existing walls.  I have narrowed my search down to “cementitious” insulation, a mixture of air, water, and cement which looks like shaving foam going in.  The product is applied through small holes punched in the mortar, between the bricks, from the outside.  The process is called Air Krete (www.airkrete.com), which was recommended on the “This Old House” website.

Only a few cooperative homeowners have expressed interest, so I thought I’d see if others in the neighborhood would like to get a quote at the same time (we may be able to get a group rate).  If you are interested, please contact Jacquie Bokow [contact details redacted] for more information.   ■
