Stories from the NFCCA Newsletter, the “Northwood News” |
We have all been touched by the harrowing images of communities destroyed and refugees adrift in the wake of Hurricane Katrina. It is a stark reminder of how very fortunate we are, and how critical the bonds of community can be. Civic associations serve many functions, but one of the least tangible and most important is to foster that sense of shared identity that creates community. Whether we’re organizing a creek cleanup or a crimewatch email network, whenever we work together as NFCCA we define Northwood Four Corners as a vital community.
We have had a busy hiatus this year: we celebrated neighborhood night out and held a special meeting on North Four Corners Park. (See articles elsewhere in this issue.) We have also seen a number of changes in the community as new businesses have opened up in the Burnt Mills Shopping Center, trash cans began to be returned to the park, and Public Works and Transportation has been doing sidewalk, curb, and gutter work as part of the Renew Montgomery program. Please join us in the coming months and help create an even stronger Northwood Four Corners. ■
