Traffic Petitions Submitted

After many months of canvassing the neighborhood, we have amassed more than 250 signatures in favor of turn restrictions from southbound Colesville Road into our neighborhood on Southwood and Lorain avenues.  The county’s Department of Public Works and Transportation determined that slightly more than 500 homes within the association’s boundaries were affected by the change.  The petitions, which were submitted in September, demonstrate that more than half of those affected favor the restrictions.

The signs should be installed soon, and we’ll turn our attention to enforcement so that we may effectively reduce the number of cars cutting through the neighborhood.

To review:  the restrictions will mean that no cars can turn right onto Southwood or Lorain avenues from southbound Colesville Road during the morning rush hour, 6:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Monday through Friday.  Similar restrictions were in effect during the reconstruction of the Colesville-University Boulevard reconstruction.

During the petitioning, many people expressed concerns about traffic coming from University Boulevard through the neighborhood on streets such as Lorain, Dennis, Kerwin, and others.  Elsewhere in this newsletter, you’ll find an article with some ideas of what can be done, assuming the neighborhood consents.

Many thanks go out to all of those people who helped get the petitions.   ■
