North Four Corners News ♦ October 2025

President’s Message

By Sharon Canavan

How about a virtual shout out to thank all our neighborhood volunteers, Board members, and Officers who work so hard to make this a great community?  Volunteers deliver this newsletter, plan community social activities, and work to keep our organization going and to let everyone know about matters of interest to our neighborhood.

The NFCCA annual election for Officers and Board members takes place at our October meeting.  If you are interested in becoming more engaged, offer to run yourself or nominate someone you believe can contribute special expertise.  Most of the current Officers and Board members have served for many years and several of the older volunteers are planning retirement moves.

NFCCA needs a succession plan to address this transition.  If you can help with organizing newsletter distribution, editing the newsletter, administering the nfcca.org website, building out our communications efforts, or managing the association budget, NFCCA will be looking for volunteers to fill these vital roles.  Please contact me at [contact details redacted online] if you have any questions about serving or suggestions for a nominee.

The Montgomery County Planning agency has been busy this past year working on the University Boulevard Corridor Plan (UBCP), which is now before the Montgomery County Council for its consideration.  Decisions affecting housing density, public transportation, traffic flow, economic development, and environmental protection will shape our community’s future, so it’s been a long haul but now is the time to pay attention and stay engaged!

Montgomery County Councilmember Kristin Mink will be the speaker at our 8 October meeting.  In addition to the University Boulevard Corridor Plan, we have asked her to talk about the plans for Bus Rapid Transit 2.0 on Colesville Road and provide an update on future development for Viva White Oak adjacent to the Adventist Hospital.

Finally, October marks the beginning of the next NFCCA dues cycle.  Our membership total ticked up slightly to an all-time high of 279.  NFCCA membership comes at the low, low price of $15 per household.  Use link below for easy ways to pay your dues.  We also welcome voluntary donations to keep our newsletter going and fund social activities.

The five issues of North Four Corners News are our main annual expense and those costs have risen.  Ad revenue only covers part of the printing cost, so dues are key to preserving a printed newsletter.  Hosting the nfcca.org website and room rental fees for our general meetings are two other essential expense items.  The NFCCA Officers and Board, along with a fantastic group of neighborhood volunteers, are doing our part to keep expenses as low as possible.  Please do your part by paying your NFCCA membership dues.   ■
